Rabbeinu Yoram Michael Abergel ztz"l
A man of rare humility, kindness and a warm smile, who devoted his life to Torah and to every Jew who came through his door.
Hillula 27 Tishrei

His character
- 01
Humility
Exceptionally humble – he saw himself as "one of the least" before Torah scholars.
- 02
A warm smile
Content with little, he greeted every person warmly and lived for others.
- 03
A listening ear
Every day he received dozens seeking a blessing or advice – on marriage, livelihood, health and education – and listened to each one.
- 04
Faith and trust
He taught never to despair, and to trust in Hashem even when every door seems closed.
His life
Born on 17 Sivan 5717 (1957) in Moshav Brosh to parents who had immigrated from Morocco, he studied at the Bnei Akiva yeshiva "Beit Yehuda" in Kfar Maimon, at "Tiferet Tzvi" in Hebron and at Yeshivat HaNegev.
After his marriage he moved to Netivot, where he drew close to the kabbalist Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira – the Baba Sali – and served him devotedly for five years.
In 5745 (1985), inspired by the Baba Sali, he founded the Kollel "Kol Rina – Rav Pe'alim" in Netivot, which began in a bomb shelter. From it grew a network of Torah and educational institutions – kollelim learning day and night and the "Be'er Mayim Chayim" school network – as well as the "Birkat Yosef u'Pe'ulat Tzadik" charity that distributes food to families in need. He raised thousands of students and brought tens of thousands closer to Torah.
His talks and classes were published as "Imrei Noam" on the weekly parashiot and festivals and "Betzur Yarum" on the Tanya.
He passed away on Motzaei Shabbat Parashat Bereshit, 27 Tishrei 5776 (2015), after a long illness he accepted with love, and is buried in Netivot. His sons, Rabbi Chaim Yosef David and Rabbi Yisrael Abergel, continue his path.

Where there is holiness – there is everything!
A saying Rav Yoram repeated to thousands of listeners
This is our main task in this world: to strengthen ourselves greatly in loving and honoring every single Jew wherever he is, to look kindly at every Jew without searching for his faults, and to rejoice in the joy and success of every Jew.
Imrei Noam, Parashat Mishpatim
Every single day a person should sit with himself, contemplate the good things Hashem has given him, and draw great joy from them.
Imrei Noam, Parashat Vayigash
When we truly understand and feel that we are worth nothing and are owed nothing, from that moment joy will not leave us for even a moment.
Imrei Noam, Parashat Vayigash
The more a person recognizes the many kindnesses the Creator does for him every moment and thanks Him from the depths of his heart, the more Hashem pours upon him from Heaven an abundance of goodness and blessing.
Imrei Noam, Parashat Balak
The Torah is compared to olive oil: just as oil floats above every liquid, so the holy Torah lifts and raises the people of Israel above all nations and above all the hardships of exile.
Imrei Noam, Parashat Tetzaveh
This teaches us that the Torah is truly acquired precisely when a person learns it even amid difficulties and obstacles – like a 'wilderness' – and not only when the time is easy and convenient.
